We searched systematically for the existence of histamine antagonists, thinking that this study would provide a new way to address more points in the physiology of this hormone, and would be likely to have therapeutic applications. We report the fi rst results obtained with many substances containing a phenolic ether function. We saw, indeed, that there are many products in this series which can protect guinea pigs from toxic doses of histamine.
